Live Visuals for Šuma — Shamanic‑Electronic Aesthetics for Performance and Touring

For the Berlin concert of Šuma, an artist known for her deep, shamanic, forest‑inspired electronic sound, I created a custom series of live visuals designed specifically for her performance setup. The goal was to develop a minimalistic yet atmospheric visual language that would complement the slow, hypnotic, and ritualistic nature of her music.

The project included not only the creation of the visuals themselves but also the preparation of a complete Resolume project, allowing the artist to control and reuse the content independently at future shows.

Creative Direction and Aesthetic
Šuma’s music blends electronic textures with aboriginal, earthy, and meditative elements. To reflect this, I focused on:

– slow, fluid, organic motion
– minimalistic forms with a ritualistic feel
– deep, muted colors and subtle gradients
– textures inspired by nature, shadow, and forest ambience

The visuals were intentionally restrained, leaving space for the music and performance to breathe while still creating a strong emotional atmosphere on stage.

Technical Approach
All visuals were designed with live control in mind:

– layered compositions optimized for VJ manipulation
– loops structured for smooth transitions
– minimal clutter to maintain clarity on LED screens
– a Resolume project prepared with columns, clips, and parameters ready for performance use

This setup allowed Šuma to trigger, blend, and adapt the visuals during her concerts without additional technical assistance.

Outcome
The final visual pack became an integral part of the Berlin show, enhancing the immersive, meditative quality of the performance. After the event, the artist received the full Resolume project, enabling her to use the visuals on tour and at future concerts.
