Halloween VJ Pack for DNB Allstars — A Fully Rebuilt 4K Visual Set for Themed Drum & Bass Events
For a series of Halloween‑themed parties by the UK promo group DNB Allstars, I was commissioned to create a complete VJ pack based on a single static poster. The original artwork served only as a visual reference, so I rebuilt every element from scratch to deliver a flexible, high‑quality 4K animation set suitable for large LED screens and fast‑paced drum & bass shows.
Rebuilding the Artwork in Vector for 4K Animation
To ensure maximum clarity and freedom of movement during animation, I recreated all key elements of the poster in vector format. This allowed me to scale, distort, and animate the graphics without any loss of quality — an essential requirement for 4K output and for the aggressive, high‑energy motion typical of DNB visuals.
I worked primarily in Adobe After Effects, combining my own vector illustrations with a few carefully selected assets from Motion Array, which I heavily modified to match the overall graphic style and Halloween aesthetic.
A Layered, Performance‑Ready VJ Structure
The pack was designed with a clear internal logic, giving the VJ full control over dynamics and intensity throughout the set. I structured the visuals into several functional layers:
– Dynamic loops — fast, rhythmic animations for high‑energy sections
– Slow atmospheric loops — subtle motion for breakdowns and transitions
– Strobe‑style elements — sharp flashes and high‑contrast accents
– Alpha‑channel assets — isolated objects for layering and compositing
– Accent elements on alpha — appearing periodically to emphasize strong beat drops, typical for drum & bass tracks
– Textures and overlays — adding grit, depth, and a darker Halloween mood
This modular approach ensures that the VJ can mix and match elements live, adapting the visual intensity to the music in real time.
Typography and Logo Animation
To support the Halloween theme, I curated a small selection of Halloween‑inspired fonts, packaged for easy installation so the VJ could integrate custom text into the show.
I also created several animated versions of the DNB Allstars logo, designed to work both as standalone visuals and as overlays within the main loops.
Result
The final pack delivered a complete, flexible visual toolkit for the entire Halloween event series — rebuilt in high resolution, optimized for live performance, and fully aligned with the DNB Allstars brand and aesthetic.
